Co-Founder and Chief Strategic Advisor

Emma Lundberg, PhD

Biography

Emma Lundberg, Co-Founder and Chief Strategic Advisor at GenBio AI, is an accomplished scientist working at the intersection of bioimaging, proteomics, and artificial intelligence. She is an Associate Professor of Bioengineering and Pathology at Stanford University and serves as Co-Director of the Cell Atlas of the Human Protein Atlas initiative in Sweden. She is also a Professor at KTH Royal Institute of Technology.

Emma’s research focuses on defining the spatiotemporal organization of the human proteome at the cellular and subcellular levels. Her work aims to develop integrated models of human cells to understand how protein localization patterns influence cellular function, with the long-term goal of enabling the simulation of cell behavior and a systems-level understanding of how biological information is spatially encoded.

She leads the Lundberg Lab, which created the Subcellular Atlas within the Human Protein Atlas, a widely used open-access resource for studying protein localization in human cells. Her work plays a foundational role in efforts to build virtual cell models that can simulate and predict cellular behavior.

Emma is deeply committed to open science and public engagement. She has served as Secretary General of the Human Proteome Organization and holds advisory roles across numerous international initiatives, including the CZI AI Virtual Cell, the Human Cell Atlas consortium, UniProt, Reactome, and the Human Proteome Project, as well as collaborations with pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies.

She holds a Master’s degree in Bioengineering and a PhD in Biotechnology from KTH Royal Institute of Technology. In recognition of her leadership and impact, she has twice been named among the top 10 under 40 future leaders in biopharma and omics.
